BODY LANGUAGE TRICKS TO APPEAR MORE CONFIDENT

Is it possible to communicate without words? Yes! We are communicating at all times even when we are silent. We cannot NOT communicate.

Body language is a type of non-verbal communication. It includes the gestures, poses, movements and expressions that a person uses to communicate something.

Following are few tips to appear confident by using the right body language:

1. Maintain eye contact but don’t stare

Giving eye contact shows that you are confident and creates a connect between the listener and you

2. Smile

It is important to maintain a pleasant face and smile during the conversation.  A smile shows that you are approachable and also helps to release endorphins- happy hormones

3. Crossed arms and legs are a big no no!

Crossing arms and legs will make you appear defensive. Show you are open to new ideas and opinions by keeping an open body language

4. Nod when listening

Nodding shows that you are an active listener. It works as a good persuasion tool

5. Fidget not!

Fidgeting with your hair or pen/object, biting your nails, shaking your foot are all signs of anxiety and nervousness. Avoid touching your face or neck as well. These are signs of lack of confidence

6. Power dressing

Our clothes communicate even before we do. When there is a clash in our verbal communication and our dressing, the audience believes what they see. Hence, your clothes speak much more than you think they do!

7. Sit up straight

Don’t slouch but don’t be too rigid or tensed as well. Maintain a relaxed posture by not puffing up the chest

8. Power posing

This really helps! These include standing with legs and arms stretched wide open, placing fingers together so that they form an upward pointing V-shape (called ‘steeple’)
